“FLY BY NIGHT is a new participatory work developed specifically for Melbourne’s Hamer Hall. It weaves together dance theatre, original composition and digital technology into a promenade-style, performative tour. Reflecting and contrasting the use of site and its context in the city, this work highlights the relationship between urban lifestyle and natural environment. Utalising a content positioning system and experimental indoor location detection technology, FLY BY NIGHT orients the video frame in the space; the scene emerging from the painting on our screen happens directly in front of the painting itself. Striking visuals are seamlessly ‘sewn’ together within the software, creating theatre ‘in the round’ where we, the viewer are the centre of a seemingly endless vortex of image and sound.”
